We posed some questions to Greendale Lions Club president Chad Simonis for our new feature “The Face of the Lions“.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A; I have 4 siblings, we grew up in Milwaukee. I live in Greendale with my wife Emily, and two kids ages 20 and 17
Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
A: Actually I have 2 jobs. Work for the county as a mechanic, and I bartend. What I like the most is they both serve the public.
Q: Please tell us about any interesting or unique hobbies that you have?
A: I have a collection of GI Joes from the 1980s.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Greendale?
A: Lived here 22 years
Q: How long have you been a Lion?
A: 8 years
Q: Why did you decide to join the Greendale Lions Club?
A: Seemed like an interesting organization
Q: Who was your sponsor to be a Lion?
A: Gary Jacobson
Q: Have you sponsored anyone to be a Lion?
A: Yes, I think like 14
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in Greendale? What do you love there?
A: All of them but the Pub will always be special to me
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Greendale?
A: My wife, Emily
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: Stevens Point WI, because I’m kinda lame
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: Favorite Movie, Anything Clint Eastwood. Favorite show, Twin Peaks
Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: Do your best not to do or say something that you wouldn’t like to somebody to do to you
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I don’t really have one, more of a chips fall where they may, kinda guy.
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: Temple of the Dog
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Greendale?
A: The mall because I went there a lot as a teen
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
A: Joe Stansbury at The Eleanor Room, haven’t been there with him yet. >>>
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Greendale?
A: The walking paths and Gazebo Park
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A; Hopefully the same as now but obviously older lol
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: I really enjoy silent movies
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
A: Niagara Falls, because I love water and waterfalls
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: 4th of July and Halloween by far, also really like the month of May, it’s when both my kids were born.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: A lot of western movies
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: I guess family and friends
Q: What do you enjoy the most about being a member of the Greendale Lions Club?
A: Hearing the testimonies of who we helped, whether in Greendale or elsewhere, sometimes it can bring you to tears
Q: What activities or events would you like to see the Club organize in the future? Or what should the Club emphasize more?
A: Maybe bring back the spring pancake breakfast again one day, but its tough because we are so busy all the time.
Q: What is the best memory of your time as a member of the Greendale Lions?
A: Handing out Melvin Jones awards (the highest award a Lion can receive,) To Noelle Joers-Yanisch and Herb Ripka. They more than earned it.
Q: What misconception(s) do people have regarding the Lions?
A; That were all just old people who toss out candy at parades
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOMETOWN or VILLAGE?
A: For me, hometown makes me think of Milwaukee, and Village makes me think of where I live now. I’m kind of a literal person as you can see.
